Your Date Alone with God (DAWG)

July 16, 2025

“But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.” – Luke 5:16 (NLT)

As summer unfolds, it is easy to find ourselves swept up in a different kind of busy. Whether it be vacation plans, activities with the kids, or even transitions like moving. . . summer can be a whirlwind!

In the midst of this season, do you find yourself longing for a deeper rest—a quiet space for reflection and time with God? Jesus understood this need for solitude. He consistently slipped away to secluded places for undistracted time with His Father, showing us the way.

Perhaps God is inviting you this summer to experience a “Date Alone with God” (DAWG). What exactly is a DAWG? It’s an intentional pause—a precious gift of time set aside and designed as a unique opportunity to truly be with Him, free from the world’s distractions.

Your Guide to a Meaningful DAWG

A “Date Alone with God” is simpler than you might think. Here’s a big-picture guide to help you step into a powerful and restful time:

  • Create Your Space: Find a comfortable spot that invites stillness. It could be anywhere—your backyard, a quiet room, or even a walk in nature. The location matters less than your decision to simply carve out dedicated space to be present.
  • Connect Your Heart: Gently slow your pace. Release the worries, distractions, and busy thoughts that try to crowd your mind. Acknowledge them, then intentionally offer them to God, trusting He desires to meet you exactly as you are. Remember, this isn’t a task to check off; it’s a genuine encounter where honest communication can flourish.
  • Rest in His Love: Embrace the quiet. Allow silence to do its profound work. You might listen for His voice, or simply rest in His profound love, knowing He delights in just being “with” you and refreshing your spirit.
