From a Burning Bush

There is a question that meets us at the edge of something new. Who am I to do this?

Who am I to disciple this person, to raise this child, to start this thing, to speak up in this room? Most of us know that feeling—the wave of doubt that comes the moment we are handed something that matters. We think of what we lack. We remember what we have failed at before. We are sure someone else could do it better.

Moses knew that feeling well. God called him from a burning bush to go to Pharaoh and lead an entire people out of slavery. He had every reason to feel unqualified. He was eighty years old. He had tried to help his people once before and it had gone badly, and he had spent forty years hiding in the desert since. So he asked the honest question: “Who am I that I should go?”

God did not hand Moses a list of reasons to believe in himself. He gave him something far stronger: “I will be with you.”

That is where real confidence begins: knowing who is going with us, and who God created us to be. Moses could step toward Pharaoh with his head up—not because he had become someone new, but because the God who made him, called him, and stood beside him is great enough for the task. The great I AM was going too.

This is the confidence God offers you. You are His. He made you on purpose, He knows exactly what He is sending you into, and He does not go with you halfway. You can step forward into the new thing—the role, the calling, the conversation you have been putting off—not with a nervous hope that you will be enough, but with the steady courage of a person who knows Whose they are.

The God who was with Moses is with you. He is not distant, and He is not small. So when the doubt comes—and it will—you do not have to talk yourself into being brave. You can lift your eyes to the God who says, “I will be with you,” and step in.

This week, name one new thing God may be inviting you into—something you have hesitated to step toward because you feel unqualified. Instead of waiting to feel ready, pray honestly: “God, I am Yours, and You are with me.” Then take one bold step, trusting the One who goes with you,
