Matthew 7:24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
In Part 1, we learned 4 of the most common ways God speaks to us: the Bible, whispers, images, and burdens.
One of the easiest and most common pitfalls to make in walking with Jesus is moving too fast and so focused on our own perspective that we forget to listen and ask Him to speak to us!
The solution?
Ask God often, “Do You have anything to speak to me?” If nothing comes to mind, simply make the wisest choice you can.
Is it Really God? – A Quick Test:
- Does it line up with the teachings of the Bible?
- Does it glorify God?
- Does it advance His Kingdom (rather than my own agenda)?
If time permits, you may want to seek the counsel of others (likely for larger decisions). But in the end, you are responsible for what God speaks to you.
Practice is the only way to get better at hearing His voice.
When we are hearing and obeying God’s promptings, Laborership impact takes off! God leads. We listen and obey. Obedience is love in action!
Take Action . . . When He Prompts You:
- to notice someone.
- to slow down, stop, listen, or say something.
- to physically care for or serve someone.
- to pray urgently for a person or need.
- to schedule a lunch or coffee with someone (ahead of time or in the spur of the moment.)
- to make a phone call, text someone, or write a note.
- on what to say during your call or in your message to someone.
- to simply be with someone (silently present), place a hand on a shoulder, or lend a listening ear.
- to share about Jesus with someone who does not know Him.
- to uniquely advance His Kingdom.
Weekly Challenge
Whenever you are with others this week, ask God:
“Do you want to speak anything through me? Do you want me to engage this person in any way?”
