I started thinking about my geographic coordinates—my latitude and longitude—and realized I was the only person in the world standing in these unique coordinates. It was just me and God! Did you know with enough decimals, latitude and longitude coordinates can provide the precise location of where a person is standing even down to the millimeter?
I began to see the world differently. My global address is constantly changing, and repositioning me within God’s creation—often moment by moment. No one in the world has the same global coordinates as I do at the same time! That means you have different coordinates than I do. No one on the planet has your exact coordinates right now, even within the same coffee shop, airport, library, or waiting room! Wherever you are, it’s only you within those inches on earth. For any potential naysayers considering buildings or parking structures with multiple floors, then we can get even more technical into the varying elevations and altitudes of coordinates! Friends, it’s just you! Sometimes we are alone, and sometimes we are up close to others!
As we stand and acknowledge God’s scenic creation and picturesque landscapes, are we also valuing all of mankind the same way, those made in the image of God that are standing before us?
Genesis 1 describes God’s amazing creation and specifically notes the creation of man and that he is made in God’s image. Genesis 1:26-27 says, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (ESV).
When we are not out enjoying the view or stargazing, are we using our GPS (Global Positioning System) coordinates to lean into those around us who are created in God’s image—those that God sees and cares for? Given your current coordinates, perhaps you are closest to the person next to you—more so than any other person on the planet at the moment. How will you use your unique positioning? Perhaps we redefine GPS: God’s Positioning System! How can you see, stop, and spend time with those around you? How can you show someone next to you that you care? Your very latitude and longitude every moment are not accidental. The Lord orchestrates our steps and timing.
Psalm 37:23 says, “A person’s steps are established by the Lord, and He takes pleasure in his way” (CSB). The New King James Version puts it this way: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”
Look around as you stand on your unique coordinates. “X” marks the spot! If you are viewing God’s amazing creation, pray and tell Him how thankful you are. If you are positioned near people, make note of someone closest to you. Who can you talk to, encourage, support, pray for, help, or tell about Christ? Trust the GPS: God’s Positioning System. Work the ground. You are the only person in the world standing there in this moment. How can you make an impact in someone’s life? You have a unique proximity no one else in the world has!
