This beautiful woman quickly made her way toward me and surreptitiously made eye contact. I could tell she needed my attention. I smiled and tried to graciously finish my conversation. She discretely pulled me away and whispered, “Your zipper’s down!” Hearing what she said, but being nearly traumatized in the moment and not having it completely register in my mind, I said, “What’s that?” I made her repeat herself.
“Your zipper is down,” she exclaimed! If you know me, you understand I am vulnerable and an open book, yet at the same time I am extremely conservative and buttoned-up! I do my best to represent the Lord with excellence. How could I be so undone? And, of all times, before I was ready to stand in front of a church and preach the Word of God. I wanted to completely unravel. Thank the Lord for friends like that—friends that have never met you, but love you enough to alert you.
I turned around, ran back to the restroom, triple checked zippers, buttons, snaps, and anything else that could have been hazardous in the moment. Thank God for extra fabric, flaps, and wide overlaps that help to be an added conservative safeguard and layer of protection. But still. What an ordeal that I wish I did not have to experience.
Though my zipper may have been down, prayers had already been going up. A team of faithful prayer warriors had been praying with me for weeks leading up to this moment. We had been praying over God’s message, hearts, and lives. I am not sure there were prayers specific to this situation, but the prayer team covered the whole event in prayer.
God came to my rescue like He has done repeatedly and so very graciously time and time again. The Bible says in Matthew 6, He knows what we need before we even ask! Isn’t that a comforting truth: He knows our every need, and He desires to be walking with us every second of our lives.
Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, A very ready help in trouble.” (NASB).
Though something as small as a zipper may seem trivial and like its lacking teeth, it sure didn’t feel that way in the moment. It left me feeling exposed, quite literally. I am so thankful God is our ever-present help in times of need. Does that bring you comfort? He knows what you need before you do! He desires to protect you.
Nothing is too big or too small for our God. He sees us, loves us, and genuinely cares for us. Oh, what a joy and honor to live life in tandem with the Almighty God.
Jeremiah 31:3 says, “The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness” (NIV). He is a kind and loving Father and genuinely desires what is best for us. His kindness is unfailing.
Scriptures over and over testify of His goodness and faithfulness. Read these verses with me:
- Psalm 34:19 declares, “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all. . .” (NIV).
- Isaiah 41:10 proclaims, “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will also help you, I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand” (NASB).
- Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “And the Lord is the one who is going ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not desert you or abandon you. Do not fear and do not be dismayed” (NASB).
- Psalm 31:1 “In You, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in Your righteousness” (NIV).
God cares for you. He is your loving Father who is walking with you. He is your ever-present help in time of need. He will not forsake you. He will cover you, guard you, and protect you. He is faithful!
