The Gift of the Gap

Scripture Focus:

Psalm 46:10 (ESV) — “Be still, and know that I am God.”

As the days grow shorter and the nights stretch longer, something in the rhythm of creation itself seems to whisper, slow down.
This season between Thanksgiving and Christmas tends to blur by—plans, lists, gatherings, travel, the rush of what’s next. But what if this in-between space—the gap—isn’t meant to be filled so quickly? What if God is inviting us to linger?

The gap is where we catch our breath, where gratitude settles deeper than a single day, and where anticipation builds into something holy. It’s not wasted space—it’s sacred ground.

In the quiet, we begin to notice again. The warmth of a conversation. The flicker of light in the dark. The subtle ways God is still at work. The gap gives us time to remember that the story of Christmas didn’t happen in a rush—it was born in the waiting, in the stillness, in the ordinary.
This week, before jumping into the swirl of December, take time to pause. Sit in the quiet. Let the longer nights remind you that rest and reflection are not interruptions—they’re invitations.

Weekly Challenge:

Create a small “gap” in your week—five minutes, an evening walk, a drive without music—and invite God to meet you there.
