Have you ever felt like you had to earn God’s love? We often treat our faith like a ladder we have to climb, thinking we must be doing a lot of good things before God will look our way. We act as if His love is a reward for our hard work rather than the reason He created us in the first place.
The truth is that God always takes the first step when it comes to love. He doesn’t wait for us to find Him; He enters our lives while we are still busy with our own plans. Think of the Samaritan woman at the well. She arrived alone in the heat of the day, hoping to stay hidden. She wasn’t looking for a savior; she was just trying to get water.
Jesus was already there, waiting for her. He didn’t wait for her to fix her life or say the right religious words. He broke every social rule to speak to her first. He offered her “living water”—a relationship that satisfies the soul—before she even knew she needed it. Jesus didn’t approach her because she was prepared; He approached her because He is the Creator who loves what He has made.
God is doing the same with you right now. He knows every detail of your life, and He meets you with that same intentionality. His love isn’t something you struggle to get; it is the steady reality of being His workmanship. You are already seen and already loved simply because you belong to Him.
Living in this reality changes how we labor. Because God took the first step toward us, we can take the first step toward others. We can notice the overlooked, speak hope into the silence, and bring light into ordinary moments. Bold love starts with God and flows through us to a thirsty world.
