28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might He increases strength.
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
Waiting can be an uncomfortable space. Especially when we know we’re waiting on something that is God’s will and that He wants to do. We can see and almost touch it with rapt anticipation. We imagine the good fruit of vision becoming reality. But . . . we just can’t get to the point of it becoming reality.
Maybe we’ve tried to make it happen in our own way instead of God’s way—boy, can that create a fast mess! Maybe we’ve grown weary, or even let our hope fade. It is all too easy to grow discontent, gazing upon the promises of God as if through a glass shop window.
In these moments, we have a choice to make. We can keep staring at what we’re waiting for, or we can choose to wait upon the Lord. When we shift our perspective back to gaze upon Jesus, the joy of being with Him renews our strength to soar with Him. Face-to-face, our eyes fixed on our King, we experience the joy set before us, empowering us to endure any period of waiting (Hebrews 12:1-2)!
