Scripture Focus:
Psalm 13:1, 5 (NIV) — “How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?… But I trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation.”
Some prayers are really hard to pray because we are afraid God’s answer won’t be the one we want to hear, or because it feels like He has been silent in the past. It may be a prayer for healing, a relationship, direction, freedom, or someone we love coming to know Jesus.
We want to trust Him with them, but we also fear what He might say. After enough disappointment, it can feel safer to keep those prayers quiet.
Psalm 13 gives words to that place. David asks, “How long, Lord?” He does not hide his pain. He tells God exactly how he feels. Then, in the same prayer, he says, “But I trust in your unfailing love.” Scripture does not separate honest sorrow from trust. It holds them together.
God is not asking us to pretend we are not afraid, or to clean up our prayers before we bring them to Him. He invites us to come honestly, even when the desire feels fragile and the answer feels unclear.
The prayer you have avoided is not too much for God. Maybe it is the place where He wants to meet you. Bring the prayer back. Bring the hope you have been protecting. Stay in the conversation, even if all you can say is, “How long, Lord?”
This is the invitation of Psalm 13. Do not hide the ache. Do not stop talking to God. Bring your honest heart to the One whose love never changes.
